Orlando singer Alyssa Raghu, 16, scored a personal triumph Sunday on “American Idol” by winning raves from all the judges.She performed Rihanna’s “Stay” with a mature, dramatic flair that thrilled the studio audience.Katy Perry said the teen’s tone set her apart from every other singer on the ABC contest.Raghu, a sophomore at Lake Nona High School, has made it to the Top 24. She will learn on Monday’s show if she has made it to the Top 14.
Luke Bryan said Perry had been Raghu’s champion. “You didn’t have me until tonight,” Bryan told the teen.Raghu replied that it had been her goal to impress Bryan.“You’ve got it,” Lionel Richie told Raghu. “You’ve got your confidence. You’ve got everything. Just bring it to the table.”The judges had admiring comments for most of the hopefuls, but Raghu did stand out among the 12 who performed Sunday.
Raghu will perform Coldplay’s “Yellow” with Banners on Monday’s show, which starts at 8 p.m.Radio host Bobby Bones, who is working as mentor to the “Idol” hopefuls, urged Raghu to make every move on the stage count.
